Stephens Barracks Kilkenny was the first staging of the roll out of Certificates of Appreciation to all those who served in the Congo from 1960-1964

On the 60th Anniversary of the termination of Operations des Nations Unies au Congo (ONUC) in the Republic of Congo in June 1964, the Irish United Nations Veterans Association recognises with pride, their service.

For service between 1960 and 1964 with the United Nations, during what was the first armed peace support mission undertaken by the Defence Forces.

The courage, fortitude, soldierly conduct and sacrifices by personnel brought great credit to Ireland and the Defence Forces and contributed to the effective fulfilment of the United Nations Security Council Mandates

IUNVA Members of Post’s 29, 8 and 3 were represented on the day along with 24 of our comrades who served in the Congo.  They were very proud indeed to receive their certificates and we are truly grateful for their service and continued service with IUNVA in their retirement

Congratulations to all the Congo Veterans who received their Certificates on the day and well done to the organisers and the Defence Force personnel who welcomed everyone to Stephens Barracks Kilkenny and made us all feel so very welcome and part of the Defence Forces family

The following photos speak for a very successful and enjoyable day in Kilkenny recently
